Every February Napier goes back in time to the 1930s and plays host to one of the worlds biggest vintage festivals: the Napier Art Deco Festival.
This year the theme was fashion, and I am so proud to have put together my first ever runway collection. Local and national designers were asked to create ‘Art Deco Inspired’ capsule collections; scroll down to enjoy my 10 piece 2019 collection. All items are for sale unless otherwise stated.
1. Green Beach Pyjamas (Modelled by Vianca) *SOLD*
We start the collection with a selection of resort-wear for the modern ‘30s lady. First up, a stunning pair of beach pyjamas comprising white linen trousers paired with a green halter neck top featuring appliqued Art Deco motifs.
2. Turquoise Linen Dress (Modeled by Briana) *SOLD*
This linen dress nods to nautical fashions of the 1930s and is based on an original fashion sketch from a 1934 McCalls catalogue. Feminine and figure hugging with its cinched waist and bias cut skirt, its perfect for promenading along marine parade!
3. Yellow Cotton 1920s Dress (Modeled by Lorelei) *SOLD*
Also featuring Tammy’s signature Art Deco motif, this happy yellow dress with its relaxed fit and dropped waist recalls carefree summers at the beach, perhaps in pre-earthquake 1920s Napier.
4. Red Beach Pyjamas (Modeled by Maria) *SOLD*
Returning to the 1930s, this pair of red beach pyjamas combines nautical themes with Art Deco chic, featuring wide-legged linen trousers with matching belt and streamline details on the collar.
5. Yellow Zig Zag Day Dress (Modeled by Julia)
Available for sale HERE
Inspired by a fashion shoot from the late ‘30s, this patterned yellow dress sports zigzag detailing, pleated skirt and contrast buttons.
6. Peach Dress (Modeled by Victoria) *SOLD*
With its flutter sleeves and flirty see-through nature, this silk chiffon dress would be right at home at any high society garden party. Worn here over a peach bias-cut slip with lace detailing at the neck.
7. Diamond Red Dress (Modeled by Maddy)
This bold geometric dress cuts a familiar 1920s silhouette with its dropped waist, asymmetric hemline and contrasting red sash. The outfit is completed by a handmade silk bandeau and matching parasol, just like the 1925 fashion plate its inspired by!
8. Navy Evening Dress (Modeled by Lexi)
Also featuring flutter sleeves, this navy evening dress is made from a luxurious silk devoré velvet and is paired with a silk velvet head band and matching belt.
9. Yellow Kimono over Red Silk Dress (Modeled by Lucie)
*Not for sale*
From the designer’s personal wardrobe, this ensemble would be worn to an evening soiree or private gathering in 1920s society. The red silk dress, worn underneath an oriental-style kimono, won Tammy the 2014 Art Deco Fashion Competition and was the dress that started it all.
10. Lisa’s Red Evening Gown (Modeled by Lisa) *SOLD*
And finally, local jazz singer Lisa Eagle in her very own 1930s evening gown made by Tammy Twinkletoes. This stunning garment evokes the glamour of the 1930s with its enchanting bias-cut silhouette and rich colour guaranteed to turn heads. A real showstopper to conclude the collection.
